You never know what kind of positive influence or impact you might have with a kid. It might be big, or it might be small.
Some years ago I was speaking to a group of middle school kids in St. Cloud Minnesota. A couple of weeks after that talk I got a letter from one of the 13-year old boys that was in the crowd. He thanked me and wanted me to know that what I had said that day had a huge impact on him, and that he was making positive changes in his life, because there was something in the message I shared that day that he heard.
I heard from him again when he was about to graduate from high school. He’d received a hockey scholarship from a major college. He told me that would have never happened if he had not heard my message that day in St. Cloud. You never know how what you say or do today, might affect someone tomorrow.
Life is full of influencers and difference makers in our lives. They play huge rolls in who we are, and the success we might achieve. I bet you’ve got people in your life that contributed to your success.
There’s no guarantee that what we do will make any difference in a kid’s life. But you can guarantee that if you don’t do anything, you’ll get nothing in return.
As Wayne Gretzky said: You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.
Step up to the plate and be a difference maker in a kid’s life. Show up and take a swing at the ball. Take the shot!
